Submission to the IRB-
How and when do I submit my study?

The IRB requires that all research applications be submitted electronically. When you have completed all applicable forms, you should submit your entire application to the e-mail address listed under the ‘Contact us:” section to the left. There are no specific deadlines for submitting exempt and expedited research applications. However, there are Deadlines & Meeting Dates established for research studies that require full IRB review.

Research on Multiple IU Campuses

If research will be conducted on multiple IU campuses, the IRB application shall be submitted to the appropriate IRB on the campus on which the principal investigator (PI) (or faculty sponsor) resides.

1. Exception #1:
If the research will not be conducted on the campus of the PI (or faculty sponsor), the IRB application shall be submitted to the appropriate IRB on the campus on which the research will be conducted.

2. Exception #2:
If the research will be conducted at one of the IUPUI-affiliated hospitals or Indianapolis area health facilities, the IRB application must be submitted to the appropriate IRB on the IUPUI campus, regardless of which campus the PI (or faculty sponsor) resides.

3. Exception #3:
Clinical trials or medical studies that require the expertise of the medical IRBs on the IUPUI campus shall be submitted to the appropriate IRB on the IUPUI campus, regardless of which campus the PI (or faculty sponsor) resides.
