Learn More About Kuali Coeus IRB at Town Halls!

The KC IRB implementation team is hosting a series of KC IRB Town Hall meetings. To date, two KC IRB meetings have already occurred. These sessions were well attended and full of useful discussion. Future Town Halls will be held in both Bloomington and Indianapolis. The agenda of these Town Halls is as follows:

  • What is KC IRB?
  • What does KC IRB mean for me?
  • How do I access KC IRB?
  • How does KC IRB work?
  • What does KC IRB look like?
  • Ample time for Questions and Answers

Registration in advance of the Town Hall meetings is requested, but not required. If you have an IU username, you can register by navigating to the Kuali Coeus Compliance Training Sessions page. If you do not have an IU username and would like to attend a Town Hall meeting please send an email to kcirb@iu.edu, and we would be happy to register you for a Town Hall meeting.

We thank members of the IU research community who have attended the KC IRB Town Hall meetings for their time, attention, questions, and input. As we move toward implementation of the KC IRB system we look forward to speaking with and hearing from more of you!

What is Phase I: New Study Submissions in KC IRB?

The first phase of the implementation schedule is KC IRB Go-Live on Monday, August 19, 2013. At that time researchers will submit only NEW STUDIES through the KC IRB system.

Current Submission Process

KC IRB - New Submission Process

Researcher submits IRB study by emailResearcher accesses the KC IRB system; enters appropriate information and; uploads specific forms right into the system, i.e., Summary Safeguard Statement, Informed Consent Statement, etc.
Researcher must now complete additional forms: Documentation of Review and Approval (DRA), Investigator List, and Expedited Review Checklist.KC IRB simplifies the submission process by eliminating these three separate forms.

What KC IRB Training Opportunities are Available to Me?

There are a number of ways you can take advantage of KC IRB Training opportunities:

  1. Starting in July, 2013, live training sessions for KC IRB will be offered in Indianapolis and Bloomington. You will have the opportunity to sit down with an experienced staff member and trainer to begin real, hands-on, education about KC IRB with opportunities for Q&A. You can register for KC IRB training sessions at the Kuali Coeus Compliance Training Sessions page.
  2. In addition to live training sessions, a series of eLearning videos will be available on our website for you to review.

If you have any questions or need assistance registering for KC Training contact us at kcirb@iu.edu.

What is KC IRB Model Office?

KC IRB Model Office is a test environment in which you can view and play in the system prior to implementation. In a sense, it is way to ‘kick-the-tires’ and get familiar with the application prior to actually submitting IRB protocols. Participation is voluntary! If you are interested in volunteering for KC IRB Model Office activities, please contact us at kcirb@iu.edu.

Stay tuned. More to come in future newsletters...
