January 24, 2011

Vice President for Research Jorge José is pleased to announce the appointment of Marcia Gonzales, J.D., as Assistant Vice President for Research Compliance at Indiana University. Gonzales, who has served as Executive Director of Research Compliance since 2007, will assume oversight for all areas of research compliance at Indiana University on February 1st. She will also serve on the Research Cabinet.

"Indiana University has an increasingly robust research profile, " said José. "Ms. Gonzales's experience and skills will enable us to continue to meet the highest standards of research ethics and regulatory compliance on all of our campuses and in each of our labs." All areas of research compliance, including Clinical Research Compliance, Regulatory Project Management, Clinical Trials Contracting, IRBs, IACUCs, Export Controls, Conflict of Interest, and Radiation Safety, will report to Gonzales.

"With the upcoming implementation of the Kuali Coeus system for grants administration," José noted, "it is particularly important for Steve Martin, Associate Vice President for Research Administration, to focus his considerable energy and skill on grants administration and reporting. Reorganizing the Office of Research Administration under the leadership of Martin and Gonzales will ultimately strengthen the organization as a whole, enabling us to continue to provide outstanding service and support to IU's researchers."
