October 10, 2008 -The Excellence Award was established in 1977 in honor of the Society's 10th anniversary. The award recognizes SRA members who have excelled in meeting SRA's purpose of expanding the knowledge and tools of research administration.
Marcia Landen has been a research administrator and SRA member for more than 20 years. Currently, she is the Director of Grant Services at Indiana University, Bloomington, with responsibility for all central pre-award and some post-award functions. She has also worked in the sponsored program development area both at Iowa State University and at Indiana University.
With a particular interest in professional development and leadership in research administration, she regularly presents conference sessions on these topics. Her sessions are frequently rated in the top 10 percent. Marcia is also a partner in GrantStreet Consulting, which offers faculty development training and training for research administrators.
Marcia says that SRA has been instrumental in her development as a research administrator, both for knowledge of practice and policy itself and for leadership opportunities. Marcia has been involved in service to SRA in many capacities, including SRA secretary, president of the Education Division, co-chair of an annual meeting, contributor to the Journal of Research Administration, session and workshop presenter, and member of various committees over the years. She is currently serving a three-year term on the Board of Directors. Marcia is a recipient of SRA's Hartford-Nicholsen Award for service to the Society and was selected as one of SRA's inaugural Distinguished Faculty.
Marcia earned her bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University and a M.S. degree from Ithaca College, both in the communications field. She has also earned a certificate in nonprofit management from the School of Continuing Studies at Indiana University.
