The IU Human Subjects Offices (HSO) and Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) are requesting feedback and suggestions regarding three new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for research involving human participants. The new SOPs posted for public comment are as follows:
- Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA),
- Transnational Research, and
- Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS).
These SOPs will be available for viewing on the IU Human Subjects Office website and open to public comment through December 31, 2010. Feedback is welcome and encouraged during this time.

In addition to the new SOPs, the HSO has made improvements to existing documents and will be publishing revisions to the previously available SOPs and posting updated IRB submission forms. The new documents will be available on the HSO website January 15th. The effective date for the new policies and forms is March 15th. Please find a summary of changes to the SOPs and forms by clicking here. Additional information regarding the new form requirements will be forthcoming from the HSO. The HSO will be conducting outreach and education throughout the next few months to provide training and to answer questions regarding the upcoming changes.
